Behind the scene {collaboration with TWELVEZEROSEVEN}

I am so excited to finally share behind the scene story of baum-kuchen's collaboration with TWELVEZEROSEVEN!

Jane and Dale of TWELVEZEROSEVEN are the designers behind the Message Bag. We've been good friends ever since we first met at our design school and have been sharing our passion for great designs and creative lifestyle. They recently launched Snug Attack after having their adorable twins focusing on baby(twins) apparel with typography twist. When I saw their clever yet sophisticated collection, I knew that their aesthetic would be a perfect fit for the baum-kuchen shop.

We had great time brainstorming on possible design opportunities! We wanted to create something meaningful yet very functional for everyday life while highlighting their sense of style.  We have always used these two phrases, "Everything happens for a reason" and "It is what it is." as our creative/life mantras... so we were ecstatic when our creative magic sparked and came to the conclusion that we should use these phrases as a core of inspiration for this collection.

The result is the Message Bag... designed and hand screen-printed by Jane & Dale in their LA studio. Check out some of the photos from behind-the-scene in their shop and more! (photo credit to Dale for screen printing studio shots)

I am absolutely in love with their typographic interpretation of these mantras. They played with the contrast between first and second read on these designs. "Everything happens for a reason" reads as "YES" from 10 feet away and the upside down "It is what it is." makes you think twice when you first read it before realizing the actual meaning behind it.

These designs communicate their attitude towards everything they do and genuinely captures the essence of what I like baum-kuchen to stand for.

Thank you Jane & Dale! It has been a blast working with you guys:)

the Message Bag designed by TWELVEZEROSEVEN

Happy Tuesday!

Today I am so thrilled to share the Message Bag, the baum-kuchen's brand new collection designed by Jane and Dale of TWELVEZEROSEVEN.

Jane and Dale (a wife and husband team in Los Angeles) designed the Message Bag with printed graphic interpretation of two lifestyle mantras.

“It is what it is.”
“Everything happens for a reason”

If you have been around this blog..., these phrases might sound familiar to you.

They are inspired by Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy which accepts and celebrates imperfection in life. They have been a source of inspiration for us in creativity and life... a graceful attitude which we aspire to live up to on good days but also on not so good days.

In designing the Message Bag, Jane and Dale interpreted these phrases and created engaging, fashion forward prints that visually communicated the literal messages through typography. These clean and clever concepts focus on humor, play and a secondary read.

In their Los Angeles studio, the limited edition design is hand screen printed on white and black canvas bags made by Baggu. They are high quality everyday tote/shoulder bags with a sense of attitude... sold exclusively through our baum-kuchen shop.

I would love to follow up with another post to highlight our collaboration process... but for now...enjoy the photos (with lovely models, Jane & Dale) and a short clip of our very special Message Bag!

clothes swap

After a week full of crying baby, hubby is giving extra "papa hands" this weekend... so I am having a few chunks of time between feedings to get things done around my real and online homes.

It's nice...

One of many things I've been dying to tackle for a while is getting my summer clothes out from the box that has been sitting in the garage forever. Even after having satchi, I've been wearing a lot of maternity outfits since they were all I had in my closet. It made things simple and it wasn't like satchi cared how mama looked in the mirror. She still gave me lots of love even when I looked sort of like "whatever". But now she has turned 6 week old, we're ready to start venturing out to the world. Maybe to a park... to friend's house... possibly to a farmer's market?? I also have a few appointments this coming week which I will need to go alone.

So it was time for a fashion show! I went through every single clothes and tried them on to see what fits and what doesn't. Well... turned out that I have another inch or so to shrink before I can fit in 2/3 of my pants collection. But I have enough to enjoy some variety in my closet. I love it!

Today we're off to Renegate Craft Fair. I had fun going through my new set of clothes to pick what I wanted to dress up with!!!

summer shirts!
